"The Lightning Speed Internet Sales Success Course" LESSON #12 © 1997 B.S.A. / F.M. http://web.idirect.com/~bsa/index.htm _______________________________ THE TOPIC: Why the opportunities in electronic publishing are greater than the opportunities in electronic marketing. THE ANSWER: Electronic marketing is merely a form of marketing. If you are not selling something terrific - to people who want it - and will buy it the way you are selling it - then you will never be successful, even if you could "market to 30 million people on the Internet" (which is a lie). Electronic PUBLISHING gives you great PRODUCTS that are your own. Tangible solid products - not money games - will always be the key to wealth. People who fail at "mail order" marketing tend to fail on the web. Those who succeed in mail order and other forms of so-called "direct response" marketing tend to succeed with the Web, email and so on. The Internet was never the "no brainer marketing miracle" so many claimed it was, for the simple reason that SO MANY PEOPLE began using it to advertise. Therefore it was required that one be a GOOD marketer to stand out and earn the profits! Being in the publishing business lets you ... a) sell your own products with maximum profit b) let other people sell your products and split the profits c) set your own price d) accept offers from others to help them publish their work and receive compensation or marketing rights e) bundle your products into larger packages and cut down the price while simultaneously boosting profit-per-sale f) establish a "personality presence" in your industry 7 Reasons To Publish On Disk Instead Of On Paper 1) To Save Money. Printing a 300 page book could cost you $5 or more. The labor involved in laying it out is exhausting (if you do it yourself) and/or expensive (if someone else does it for you). But you CAN put 300 pages worth of text onto a 3.5" high density diskette which costs 50 cents or less, using a simple book-on-disk program like Writer's Dream, Iris, Dart, etc. I prefer Writer's Dream, and use it for all the electronic books I make. 2) Because It's Faster. When someone orders a book on disk from me, I don't have to leave my office to make it. In fact, using my favorite disk duplicating program (DiskDupe), I can make up to 77 copies per hour of a packed high density disk! The only dressing up a disk needs is a laser printed label, easily designed using PageMaker or any other design program. 3) Because It Helps The Earth. More and more, people in the direct marketing industry are starting to look at a new bottom line - the long term fate of our Earth. We obviously can't produce unrecyclable waste forever, and it seems to me there's no better time than NOW to start using techniques that use smaller amounts of resources. Electronic publishing makes our info products smaller and less wasteful, just like electronic marketing allows us to use less paper by using phone lines. 4) Because It Can Be Updated In Almost No Time. You can upgrade your book on disk every day if you want, fixing tiny details, making it always as perfect as possible. Since you only make copies as needed, you'll always be selling a completely up to date product. 5) Because It Can Be Manufactured On An As-Needed Basis No un-necessary inventory cluttering up your garage anymore! You'll never have to lay out a huge amount of money to a printer (who might do a lousy job). Instead, you make your disks one at a time, as people order them. 6) Because You'll Save On Postage A disk weighs about 20 grams, but can hold the amount of information contained in 500 grams or more of paper. The result: you pay less to mail it. 7) Because It's Also Suitable For E-Mailing. If you can put it on a disk, you can e-mail it to someone - or set up a BBS in your office and let people dial into your computer and download it. Save the trees. Start publishing on disk NOW. You'll never look back!
