"The Lightning Speed Internet Sales Success Course" LESSON #11 © 1997 B.S.A. / F.M. http://web.idirect.com/~bsa/index.htm _______________________________ THE TOPIC: How to find up to 500 (or even more) newsgroup messages for any topic ... and use those messages to gather material, ideas and customers. THE ANSWER: The short answer: Go to www.dejanews.com and type a word or phrase into the search line for "Finding Messages". This is the most incredible way I have found to collect email addresses. Be careful using them though! The long answer (excerpt from The Future Media New Technology Marketing Letter, for which you can get a FREE subscription by sending an email to scovert@accel.net with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject line): Have you got a guru in your field, that you would love to follow in the footsteps of? Great. Because I did something last night that I'm quite proud of. You see, there's somebody who's very emphatic about Internet newsgroup advertising, but I know if I asked him to tell me what newsgroups he advertises in, he'd tell me to get lost. OK, I can respect that. It's HIS karma, not mine. But I figured out a way to find out exactly what newsgroups he advertises on - not to mention the messages he is sending, which are surely tried and proven. All you do is go to www.dejanews.com and in the search field for "Find related messages" type in the name or company name of your guru. You will be given search results that will tell you exactly what newsgroups he advertises on. Then all you do is make a note of those newsgroups and send your messages to them. ANOTHER IMPORTANT TIP: It might seem disappointing to post a message to multiple newsgroups and get no response. But look at the facts. How long does it take you to post a message to 20 news- groups? 120 seconds? Maybe only 60 seconds, right? That includes opening up Notepad or Write or Wordpad or whatever, selecting all the text (for your message), Copying it to the clipboard (or Mac's equivalent), opening up your newsgroup program, pasting in the message, selecting the newsgroups, and sending it. And you can use the SAME text file over and over, varying the headline (subject line). (You DO have all your standard salesletters in text file format somewhere on your hard drive, right?) This being the case, how much would you like to be paid per hour? $200 sound good? If it does, then you have to realize that even if it takes 30 posts spaced out every 3 or 4 days, newsgroup message posting will be profitable even if it only generates $200 every 30 attempts. I'm quite sure a lot of people squirm away from newsgroup advertising once they don't make $1000's off their initial attempt. They know the Halbert stories and the Kennedy stories and the Myers stories and the Abraham stories and they wonder "how come I'm not making millions$ overnight?" Some such people go back to fixing pipes or flipping hamburgers or whatever, which pays almost NOTHING per hour. Now of course you want more than $200 profit returned from a couple of months' worth of newsgroup advertising. My point was just that since newsgroup posting is free and can be done with a couple of minutes of effort every couple of days, you should JUST DO IT! Remember the basics of salespersonship when you do your postings. The headline summarizes the offer in a tantalizing way. The body lists benefits benefits and more benefits. At the end list your email address and phone number and your full name. Be open to the world, not closed, if you want to be in business, remember?
